Reposting: AlertMarin & Nixle have different ways of reaching you & supplement each other. Register for both. Please continue reading the following explanation. AlertMarin relies on a “geocode," ie, a digital locater, that makes phone calls that may go wider than necessary (simplified explanation). Nixle can send a map and readable information to your computer or Iphone (email or text, depending on which device you use). Thus the overly wide alertmarin evacuation warning phone call during the height of the Woodward Fire was clarified via a nixle simple map and accompanying description. So everyone should be signed up for both alertmarin and nixle. And, yes, some people report some problems with one or the other, so it's essential to sign up for both. If you are not a computer user, keep KWMR tuned in (90.5 PRS, 89.9 Bolinas, 92.3 SGV)

AlertMarin: Listed and unlisted/blocked Marin County landline phone numbers are already included in the emergency notification system. Cell phone and VoIP numbers are not included and will require your registration in our Self-Registration Portal. https://www.marinsheriff.org/services/emergency-services/alert-marin(link is external)
