5th Annual Stinson Beach DocFest - Nov, 9-11!

FIVE OF THE BEST DOCUMENTARIES OF 2018!  Benefiting the Stinson Beach Community Center, the Fifth Annual Stinson Beach Doc Fest will be held November 9th to 11th at the Stinson Beach Community Center, located at 32 Belvedere Avenue, Stinson Beach.

The Doc Fest begins Friday night, November 9th with an Opening Night Gala featuring live music by the Michael Knowlton-Jeff Castro Duo and a delicious “Tastes of West Marin” dinner prepared by local chef David Cook, host of the radio show “Fishtales.”  

The Opening Night film at 8pm, RBG, is a multiple award-winning documentary on Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg that follows the unique personal journey of this diminutive, quiet warrior's rise to the nation's highest court.

Saturday night at 5pm features Pick of the Litter, which follows a litter of puppies from the moment they’re born through their intense two-year odyssey to become guide dogs for the blind.  “…a story that's as edifying as it is heartwarming.” RottenTomatoes.com.  “With every wet face lick and happy tail wag, Pick of the Litter affirms the obvious: the world is a much better place with dogs in it.” Roger Ebert.  A wonderful film for both adults and children.

Following at 7pm is Free Solo, a stunning, intimate and visually gorgeous portrait of the free soloist climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream: climbing the face of the world’s most famous rock, the 3,000ft El Capitan in Yosemite National Park … without a rope.  It’s an inspiring story of an athlete who exceeds our current understanding of human physical and mental potential, breathtakingly shot by fellow climber, Jimmy Chin (Meru). 

On Sunday at 5pm, Evolution of Organic by Bay Area filmmaker Mark Kitchell will be shown, an entertaining film narrated by Frances McDormand that traces the organic food movement from its counter-culture roots in the ’60’s to the present day.  It’s a heartfelt journey of change from a small band of rebels to a cultural transformation in the way we grow and eat food.  

And showing on Sunday at 7pm, Dark Money is a political thriller that examines one of the greatest present threats to American democracy: the influence of untraceable corporate money on our elections and elected officials. The film takes viewers to Montana to follow an intrepid local journalist working to expose the real-life impacts of the US Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. A Nominee for the Grand Jury Prize, Sundance Film Festival, 2018.
