Aging as a Spiritual Practice - Session 5

Interfaith minister Elizabeth River leads a class based on the book Aging as a Spiritual Practice by Lewis Richmond, a Zen Buddhist priest. Open to all interested in sharing their journey of aging with a small, caring community of others on the same path. A section of the book will be covered in each class, finishing with a plan—both personal and as a group—for how to live in a way that is more nurturing, more meaningful, and includes more joy.

About Aging as a Spiritual Practice: Lewis Richmond, with gentleness and compassion, leads readers on a journey of self-discovery, acceptance, gratitude, and transformation in the time of growing old. He does this through his own story of illness and loss and his spiritual maturing over his life, as well as the stories of others from whom he has learned. Bringing in facts from medicine, psychology, and scientific research, he has created a magnificent book and guide…simple, deeply moving, and enormously helpful to all of us who are asking difficult questions about our own aging self.

About Elizabeth River: Rev. Elizabeth River is an Interfaith minister, ordained by the Chaplaincy Institute, an Interfaith Seminary & Community in 2004. She is a chaplain at Hospice by the Bay in Larkspur, and she also officiates weddings and memorial services. Her central spiritual practices include living in gratitude at every moment, spending as much time as possible in nature, and loving and accepting people as they are, helping them connect with one another. She lives in Inverness.
