Artist as Entrepreneur Workshop 1: Laying Groundwork for Success
Is your art practice a hobby or a business? Take a strategic approach to developing and sustaining life as a professional artist.
In this 1 day workshop you will gain:
- an understanding of the arts ecosystem to help in clarifying career direction and options for exposure and support
- an entrepreneurial mindset to identify independent and nontraditional alternatives
- a personal plan with clarified values, choices, and goals for your future as a self-employed artist
The workshop will introduce business basics needed by artists today, such as planning, marketing and communications, fundraising, finance and legal issues.
By the end of the day, students will have initiated a personal plan and clarified their values, choices, and goals for the future. Presentations paired with active discussions and exercises will promote critical reflection and awareness of tools and tactics to achieve their objectives. The emphasis will be on real world strategies adopted by expert and experienced practitioners.
