The Contemporary Opera Marin performs "Bolshevik Cabaret." Paul Smith, music director and pianist, continues his on-going series devoted to presenting free performing arts to West Marin. 100 years ago, visionaries overturned a society 100 years ago, bullies duped the masses BOLSHEVIK CABARET!!! Music theater, dance, and opera by Soviet composers in observance of the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution. (and yes, the October Revolution actually occurred November 7-8). Program includes scenes from the suprematist opera Victory over the Sun and Dimitri Shostakovich’s underground opera Rayok, in addition to stagings of declamations, instrumental, vocal, and choral music from this extremely fertile period of Soviet artistic creativity. Program length approximately 75 minutes.
