Color Reduction Block Printing with Maia de Raat

Date:
Sunday, July 27, 2014 - 10:00am to 4:00pm
Event Description:

Come join Maia in a stroll around town to gather inspiration then return to the studio to create a multiple color print. In this class devoted to the reduction process, you’ll learn how to plan for color printing and create a edition of multicolor block prints from just one relief block. The advantages of reduction process are the ease of color registration for creating delicate details, and the savings in materials and time. You won’t spend time carving nearly identical blocks to add a highlight or subtle shading. Since only one block is used for printing its easier to register the different layers of color onto your print. The carving is done in stages reusing a single block and each color is printed individually from light to dark. Each successive layer of color reduces of more and more the printable area your block.
