The Rotary Club of West Marin presents a movie entitled “East Side Sushi” at its 2nd annual movie night on Friday, May 19, 2017.  Proceeds will be used to maintain the Rotary Peace Garden in downtown Point Reyes and complete the irrigation.

This heartwarming and sometimes heart wrenching film is about a young woman named Juana.  Juana can slice and dice anything with great speed and precision.  After working at a fruit vending cart for years, she decides to take a job at a local Japanese restaurant.  She attempts to become a sushi chef, but is unable to because she is the “wrong” race and gender.  Against all odds, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, determined to not let anyone stop her from achieving her dream.

East Side Sushi has won 9 awards at various film festivals, including the San Francisco Bay Area Latino Film Festival in 2014.

Critics say it will definitely be a “crowd pleaser”; it is “engaging” and “a Triumph”.
