Date:
Saturday, November 1, 2014 - 2:00pm to 5:00pm
Location:
Event Description:

Here's the scoop: I'm having a party to open my first-ever solo photography show in just a couple weeks (Nov 1st) at the Dance Palace Community Center in Pt Reyes Station.  Will you join me?

About the Art:

For the Yes of It

Welcome to the world of She Who Thrills in the Ordinary.  These are photographs of who, what and where has stopped me in my tracks, lured me forward, downward, upward, outward and inward toward what I had thought I already knew, but was humbled to discover anew upon further exploration.  This collection has been years in the making and you will be the first ones to see it.  Dive in! I invite you to rejoice in the unexpected beauty and captivating strangeness of the apparently mundane corners and niches of Life.

For a sneak peek, check out: http://the-big-yes.tumblr.com/

*All the photography will be available to take home once the show comes down for an exchange of dollars or some other agreed-upon currency. (I'm very interested in all sorts of currencies, so let's get creative about this!)
*Bring an item for our collective ancestor altar if you feel so inclined.

Celebrate the opening with me on one of the most powerful days of the year to celebrate life -
Dia de los Muertos - Saturday, November 1st 2-5pm.
Dance Palace Community Center - 503 B Street
Point Reyes Station, CA 94956

And, if that wasn't reason enough to come out...

Dress up and stick around for our annual community Dia de los Muertos ceremony, complete with Aztec dancers, a communal altar and delicious food.

Saturday, November 1, 5:45 PM

Free / Sliding scale donations welcome

For over 3000 years, the indigenous people who lived in Mexico, the Southwest and California, have celebrated a ritual honoring the dead. Over the time, this ritual became known as El Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. A celebration of life, a time to share memories through arts and crafts, music, stories and food. Join us in celebrating those who have gone before us.  El Dia de los Muertos is not a sad time but a time of remembering and rejoicing.

Traditional arts & crafts activities include sugar skulls, facepainting, and making small altars and offerings.

Local Mexican food and drink will be served.

Ernesto Sanchez will create a Community Altar that merges reverence for our love ones passed with a touch of splendor and whimsy. He invites community members to take part in creating the altar over the next two months and will host skeletonmaking parties at his studio. Anyoneinterested in working on the altar should call Ernesto at 415-852-2572, email him at Ernestostudio@gmail.com. Ernesto has lived in the Bay Area since 1969. His work is multimedia and multicultural.  Produced by the Dance Palace with support from the Marin Community Foundation.
