                                                TIME AS WE KNOW IT

An exhibition of original photographs by a West Marin artist

Marna Clarke is exhibiting photographs from a body of work she has entitled “Time As We Know It”. Inspired by a black and white Kodak ad, she began photographing in 1973 while living in New York City, married with two small sons. When she turned 70, Clarke began photographing herself, her partner and their lives as a way to understand and make peace with getting older. As the project evolved, she realized the work was also a tribute to her life of 75 years in which she has enjoyed motherhood, grandchildren, satisfying creative work, and a twilight romance.

A rather circuitous route brought her to California in 1996 by way of Connecticut, Martha’s Vineyard, India, and Michigan. Clarke joined Gallery Route One in 2012; in December 2013, she had an exhibition in the Annex Gallery of some of this work combined with vintage pictures of her growing up.

Clarke’s work has been shown at The Bolinas Museum, Toby’s Gallery, and numerous group shows in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. Her book, “Time As We Know It” will be for sale at the gallery.

More photographs are available by request in high-resolution JPG format. For questions contact Marna Clarke at 415 663-1541.

The WILD BOOK SHOW

Exhibition and silent auction of handmade and small edition books to benefit GRO's Artists in the Schools Program.  Featured artist Dylan Yvonne Welch exhibits etchings on book pages. Books by students at West Marin Schools will be included in the auction.

Handmade and small edition books celebrating our "wild" environment, from the microscopic to the cosmic will be exhibited and sold through a silent auction to benefit Gallery Route One's Artists in the Schools program. The exhibition is a "natural" for all artists and community members with a passion for wild nature at any scale. The Wild Book show began as a celebration of the wilds of the Point Reyes National Seashore but this year the topic expands to include the whole wild universe!

The exhibition includes wild books by students in West Marin’s Schools, and etchings on book pages by Dylan Yvonne Welch. The Wild Book Show is co-sponsored by Gallery Route One and Point Reyes Books.

Artists and community members are invited to make wild books for the auction. For more information please visit galleryrouteone.org/call-to-artists/ or email projectspace@galleryrouteone.org

VICKISA, Drawing From Life
Waiting, being still, being quiet, has always been a real problem for me as I am usually “pushing the river”, doing something, just trying to shake it up and make it happen. I'm learning to be still - to take some time - to rest - to be quiet. A meditation on waiting in Life Drawings. Drawings from the Mill Valley Art Festival at the music stage.
