"Mars' Book: Confessions of My Inner Dog." Mars is at once a real poodle and an inner figure who was born full grown in the psyche of Dorothy Nissen, and whose second birth on a higher plane, cosmic dream, and eventual coming out as a seasonal entity were facilitated by the painting of some twenty-eight paintings which the artist mines once more in this show. A new edition of "Mars' Book" will be available along with other new work by the artist.
The True Cost of Plastic, is a mixed media installation by Judith Selby Lang and Richard Lang. Through the years, as a collaborative team, they have visited Kehoe Beach in the Point Reyes National Seashore hundreds of times to gather plastic debris washing out of the Pacific Ocean. They have amassed quite a collection of toy soldiers. Wracked by a long life at sea, some of the faces are gnarled, chewed on, abraded by the sand. Each soldier is a poignant reminder of the ravages of war and the extremes to which nations will go to preserve dominion over the petrochemical world. In their large-scale photographs the soldiers will be represented.
