DUALITY
Tim Graveson & Zea Morvitz

Artists Tim Graveson & Zea Morvitz, who live in Inverness (West Marin) will be exhibiting new collaborative and individual works at GRO / Gallery Route One from Oct. 5 to Nov. 11, 2012.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 5 pm.

Both artists work with dual themes: the book and the landscape. Graveson is a photographer who has been placing and photographing books in landscapes for over 10 years. Morvitz incorporates landscape elements into her drawings and within artist books. The artists have created several collaborative installations over the past few years and have recently begun to work together on single artworks. Duality will present their individual work as well as collaborative pieces within a collaboratively created installation.

Graveson's conceptual photographs begin when the artist places books in carefully chosen locations including ocean beaches and mountain landscapes. The book, with its association with transient human presence and culture, changes the viewer's perception of the landscape in which it is placed. In the upcoming exhibition Graveson promises floating books.

Morvitz's large ballpoint pen drawings of imagined landscapes, rocks and trees are infused with energetic intensity. Her handbound artist books present the same material in a contemplative format. In both formats, the intensity and elegance of the line drawing is balanced by the simplicity of the subject matter.

The two artists are married and have explored their shared themes for over 10 years, beginning with their collaborative work with Miz-Maze Theatre, an installation and performance group in West Marin, active mainly during the 1990's.
