Event Description:

Closing Party 2 to 3 PM, Followed by a Live Auctionat 3 PM

GRO is open every day 11am to 5pm, Saturdays until 7pmduring the BOX SHOW™

Gallery Routes One’s legendaryBOX SHOW™is a celebration of art making, community and the magic that begins with a plain wooden box.

The live auction on September 30this the culmination of the Box Show, GRO’s premier fundraising event of the year. This highlights GRO’s mission in a way that is unique and important. While supporting its local concerns—along with its artist members who have found a sense of community outside of the major urban, artistic centers—GRO is outward facing, its ears tuned into the national and global conversations around art, the environment, politics and humanitarianism so as to invite them into the local discourse. Operating on a minimal budget and countless volunteer hours from its members, it deserves our support.

THE BOX SHOW™ running since 1999 is not only an opportunity for so many artists to flex their creative muscles,Italso helps to fund GRO’s various initiatives but is an outreach project in its own right—inviting community members, whether practicing artists or not, to try their hand at creating a box for exhibition. For some participants, their box is the only piece of art they’ve ever exhibited, and they return year-after-year; others are established artists whose box gives them a chance to break out of their usual practice and try something new. This gives The Box Show a delightful range, with a tremendous diversity of skill, subject matter and conceptual mastery on display.

Gallery Route One’s other outreach programs include:

Artists in the Schools (AIS), a multi-disciplinary program for students in West Marin public schools combining art making and creative writing with the classroom science curriculum.

GRO’s Latino Photography Project (LPP) offers photography instruction for Latino adults.

Project Space exhibitions. These are focused around several themes: environmental issues, social justice issues and diaspora and immigration.
