About Ruth Braunstein
Ruth Braunstein opened her first gallery in Tiburon in 1961. In 2011, after 50 years, the 88 year old closed the doors to her South of Market Gallery Braunstein/Quay, but she is decidedly not retiring from the art world.
She is co-founder of the San Francisco Art Dealers Association which now includes 48 of the city’s most
important galleries.

She also plans to spend more time with ArtCare, her new charity supporting the restoration of major public
art pieces.
With her deadpan gaze, visceral critiques and no - nonsense attitude, Braunstein has a reputation as one of the the Bay Area’s staunchest art advocates and one of it’s most formidable teachers.
