Let's Talk American Taboos
Let’s Talk American Taboos
This week, Let’s Talk asks callers to air their views on American Taboos. Yes, we want people to talk about what they don’t like to talk about! From how much money we earn, to bodily functions, sex and death, there are elements of life that may be hard for us to discuss.
Some behavioral taboos are also illegal or harmful. Should we be more open to discussing them? Which taboos should remain unspoken? How have American taboos changed? Film, TV and the Web are full of sexual imagery and porn, but we are still squeamish about certain body parts and even breastfeeding. Political careers have been ended by revelations of sexual taboos. How does hiding our guilty pleasures affect our lives and relationships?
Tell us why you think taboos exist, if they are useful or harmful, and which taboos you would like to hear discussed more openly. Warning: we will be mentioning body parts during the show. Please listen on Thursday January 14th between 11 a.m. and noon, and call 415-663-8492.
