Little Folkies House Camp is a Summer camp for children ages 5-10 who wants to explore the folk, old-time, bluegrass and Appalachian styles of music and instrumentation. We will teaching singing and giving instruction on various stringed instruments like guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and there will be opportunities for exploring other instruments as well like bass, piano, drums and more. We will provide some instruments but kids who have their own acoustic instruments should bring their own as well.

We’ll be learning traditional songs and tunes, and some more modern acoustic music as well, working on rhythm, chords, melody, harmony and more ethereal concepts like feel and groove, listening to each other and improvising.

In addition to the daily classes every day includes:

Hearty home-cooked meals! (Snacks and lunch)

Outdoor-based, nature exploration, walks, art from recycled material and found objects

Dance! Square dance, flat footing, ham boning, swing and creative dance

Songwriting - we will have songwriting workshops every day, and try to write one traditional-inspired tune together

Jamming

Daily performance by students at lunch and for pick-up

Conversations about music, friendship, gender equality, the importance of kindness, helping the youngest and oldest, contributing in a positive way to your community and more
