Mount Tamalpais Watershed- Frog Docent Training

Date:
Saturday, March 23, 2019 - 10:00am to 3:00pm
Location:
Event Description:

Frog Docents monitor habitat conditions for and educate hikers about native foothill yellow-legged frogs. The required training begins  in Fairfax with a discussion of frog biology and population threats, radio training and methods for engaging the public. At noon we take a 3 mile round-trip hike to Little Carson Falls. The minimum commitment is three 5 hour shifts between March and June, when the frog eggs and tadpoles are at their most vulnerable. The foothill yellow-legged frog, Rana boylii, is native to parts of the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed and is listed as both a federal and state species of special concern, which means its population is declining. MMWD needs help from the community to stop the decline and help restore a healthy population within the watershed. Becoming a frog docent is a great way to get outdoors, have an extraordinary volunteer experience, and contribute to public understanding and protection of this native species. Yearly training is offered in early spring.Docents must be at least 18 years old. Mandatory training will occur on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 10:00- 3:00.
