Music @ the Printshop: Hod & the Helpers, Jeff Manson

Date:
Friday, December 8, 2017 - 7:00pm to 9:30pm
Event Description:

Join us for an evening of psychedelic alt-folk when Hod and the Helpers come to play at the printshop. Their lovely, 1970s-sounding songs – owing as much to the intimacy of Will Oldham as Randy Newman’s smart-ass character studies – ask the listener to pay attention to their simplest activities, relishing their chores as if they are free time. There’s an empathetic pathos to their music, a self-conscious bitterness rare in modern songwriting.

LOCATION: Ink.Paper.Plate, 11401 State Route 1, Point Reyes Station (at the Gas Station)

“An intricate web from the threads of classic AM radio rock. There’s a little psychedelia here, some country-rock there, and an unwavering dedication to melody…. floats by in a haze… things get dark and trippy from there.” -PunkNews

“There’s a lot happening with this alt-folk band. One minute, there are sweet harmonies sprinkled on top of swing rhythms. Then there’s a swell of vocal power… howling about the cynicism of men or maintaining a healthy skepticism… It shouldn’t work, but this five-piece hot mess of percussion, keys, bass, guitar and vocals has just enough coordination—between all the clashing and clattering.”
-Monterey County Weekly
