Description: This year we will have an East-West collaboration featuring
guest musician, Banjo virtuoso and composer, Tim Weed, and percussionists
and musicians, Sina and Samandar Dehghani. The evening will begin with an
invocation of rhythmic drumming by Fariba Bogzaran, who will later recite
Rumi poetry and other mystical poetry in Persian and English. This entire
performance promises to be an uplifting night of rhythm, improvisation,
and poetry. It is dedicated to the protection of Mother Earth.
About the Lucid Art Foundation
The Lucid Art Foundation (www.lucidart.org) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
Private Operating Foundation cofounded in the fall of 1998 by Robert
Anthoine, Fariba Bogzaran (artist/scientist), and Gordon Onslow Ford
(painter). The concept of Lucid Art developed out of two scientific
research studies on lucid dreaming (consciousness in sleep) and modern
art.
The mission of the Lucid Art Foundation is to explore the phenomena of the
inner worlds and deep levels of consciousness through visual arts,
spontaneous painting, writings, and other means to make visible the
otherwise invisible, creating an inclusive way of seeing which is in
harmony with the natural world of which we are a part.
To carry out its mission, the Foundation engages in a variety of
activities, including annual seminars for professional artists, an artist
residency program, publications, exhibitions, collection management (loans
of artwork to museums and galleries), lectures, and musical events.
Performers
Tim Weed is a musician, composer, and a virtuoso on Banjo. His music has
developed into an eclectic blend of Bluegrass and world music with
stunning harmony vocals, drawing influences from India, Tibet, Africa, and
South America. He has appeared on National Public Radio as a featured
artist on Bob Boilen's "All Songs Considered." In addition to his own
performing and touring, Tim Weed is the artistic director of Sound
Orchard, a nonprofit musical arts organization.
Fariba Bogzaran is the cofounder and the creative director of the Lucid
Art Foundation. She is a multimedia artist who integrates science, dreams,
and rhythm into her art making. Trained in shamanic and Egyptian hand
drum, she developed a cocreative ritual using percussive instruments in
1989 and performed it in the San Francisco Bay Area and internationally.
Annually, she invites multicultural artists to create the "Mystical Night
of Music and Poetry" for the Lucid Art Foundation.
Sina Dehghani is known for his innovative style and improvisational
mastery on the ancient Persian classical drums: Tombak (wooden drum) and
Daf (hand drum). He studied with prominent Persian master percussionists
and has performed in renowned music ensembles. He has been teaching music
for a number of years and currently performs in the San Francisco Bay Area
and throughout the United States.
Samandar Dehghani is a professional musician and composer playing two
classical Persian instruments: Tar (string instrument) and Daf. He has
been playing music from a young age and trained with master musicians in
Iran. He moved to the United States in 2012 and performs regularly in the
San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the country. His new album, Light on
Fire, will be released this fall.
