Benefiting the Stinson Beach Community Center, the Second Annual Stinson Beach Doc Fest will be held November 6th to 8th at the Stinson Beach Community Center, located at 32 Belvedere Avenue, Stinson Beach. www.stinsondocfest.org.
Showcasing five of the best documentary films of the year, Doc Fest begins Friday night, November 6th with an Opening Night Gala, featuring live music by the Jeff Castro-Michael Knowlton Duo and a delicious “Tastes of West Marin” dinner. The feature film, Meru, an award-winning documentary about the first successful ascent of the Shark’s Fin on Mt. Meru, follows at 8:00pm.
On Saturday night at 5pm “Best of Enemies,” looks at the 1968 TV debates between conservative William F. Buckley and liberal Gore Vidal that changed television forever. “Smart, fascinating, and funny, Best of Enemies takes a penetrating -- and wildly entertaining -- look back at the dawn of pundit politics." It will be followed at 7pm by “The Great Alone,” an award-winning film about four-time winner of the Iditarod sled race, Lance Mackey.
On Sunday at 5pm “Batkid Begins,” documenting the day that San Francisco turned into Gotham City for one small boy, will be screened. This charming film is great for both kids and adults At 7pm “Dying to Know,” will close the festival. An intimate portrait of two complex, controversial characters, Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert (Ram Dass), and their epic friendship that shaped a generation, “Dying to Know” ponders questions about life, drugs and death.
Individual film tickets are $8 in advance; $10 at the door. Opening Night Gala tickets, including dinner and the film, are $50. Sponsorships of the Film Fest are also available.
