Join poet Patti Trimble for fun and beautiful survey of poetic-nature works, an inspired weekend of writing poems.

As the morning birds sing, or the full moon shines, we'll read the work of some wonderful nature writers—ancient to modern— and write poems or short prose in response, honing though words our relationship to the world.

We'll read old poems, Egyptian Hymn to the Sun God, Hesiod's Hymn to Selene.

In a field of wildflowers, we'll read an eclogue and a pastorale and follow medieval nature-poetic forms.

We'll look at how Whitman, the Beats, and Thomas Transtromer used words to place themselves in "nature" ; and how contemporary poets like Mary Oliver and Kay Ryan evoke an intimate sense of place.

Hope you will join us. This will be a meaningful and restorative weekend, as we write in community, in the wilds, with plenty of time for reverie. This class is open to everyone. 

 

 

To make a prairie it takes a clover and one bee,—     

One clover, and a bee,
