A public art installation by Jane Ingram Allen which features a sculptural walk-in nest in the commons and smaller nests hanging from trees along Main Street/ Route 1in Point Reyes Station. School children, community members and artist volunteers are invited to participate in this exciting project and work with internationally known environmental artist Jane Ingram Allen. Please see below for open studio dates both at West Marin School and at the Commons. Nests will be made of branches collected in the Point Reyes area and lined with handmade paper feathers containing seeds in the paper pulp. Paper for the feathers will be made from plant materials gathered locally. Point Reyes is an important flyway and habitat for birds. The installations aim to raise public awareness about the need to preserve bird habitats. Birds are indicators of environmental conditions; nest and feathers are natural engineering marvels. The public art installation will remain on view as it biodegrades.
