Talking about race in America, particularly among white (or Anglo) people, isn’t easy. Contrary to assertions of a color-blind society, reverse racism, and well-meaning liberalism, Americans aren’t “over” our history or the systemic supremacy of whiteness in our culture, politics, education, and neighborhoods. Racial prejudice, cultural ignorance, and white fragility are real issues at the foundation of what it means to live in the USA. How do we begin to explore these interwoven topics in open, inclusive community conversation? This moderated series of book readings and group discussions with local writer and activist Marc Matheson, a white full-time resident of West Marin, will center on works by white and non-white authors.
