Virtual Artist Reception: Shirley Salzman, "All Over the Map"

Date:
Sunday, February 21, 2021 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm
Event Description:

February Virtual Artist of the Month at the Dance Palace: Shirley Salzman, Mixed Media Artist Presents "All Over the Map"
Sunday, February 21 from 5 - 6PM on ZOOM

Join artist Shirley Salzman as she tells stories about her creative journeys through life and art. This online event, organized by the Dance Palace Art Committee, will be on February 21st from 5-6PM on ZOOM. It will feature a conversation with the artist discussing several pieces, followed by a Q&A session.

Shirley Salzman is a local artist who spends time in the woods or on the beach then in her studio painting whatever inspires her. The works on paper or canvas are usually landscapes or abstracts but one year she produced hundreds of tiny wooden houses. Another year she painted only bull kelp. Years ago she spent time making sacreligious collages.

She graduated in art from Berkeley in the 60s and continues to be obstinate and slightly to the left of practical. She’s had a varied “career” drawing Victorian buildings, painting scenery, making stuffed sculpture, making 3D quilts, redoing houses, planting trees and generally making stuff. Now she is working in acrylic on paper and making painted canvas tablecloths for my family. She lives on the Point Reyes mesa with her artist partner Bruce Fox.
