    Emergency

Per Marin County (Sat. Oct. 24): At 7:30am this morning, PG&E said it could potentially initiate a planned power shutoff in parts of Marin County between 1pm and 5pm on October 26th, 2019.  PG&E estimated that 86,813 metered locations within Marin would be affected by a possible PSPS. The duration of the shutoff is unknown and will be determined by PG&E. Additionally, it is coordinating with nearby response partners in monitoring the power situation. The Emergency Operations Center will be activated in the event of the Public Safety Power Shutoff.

PG&E is monitoring weather patterns and said it will provide updates to customers and the County of Marin as additional information is available.  Residents and businesses can access updated PSPS information from PG&E online at: www.pge.com/pspsupdates

All questions regarding PSPS events and extended outages should be directed to PG&E via their website and (866) 743-6589. Please only call 9-1-1 if you are experiencing a medical or life-threatening emergency (or see a downed line).

Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution during the Red Flag Warning because a simple spark could cause a major wildfire, including the use of equipment and machinery as well as smoking. Please report potential new fires to 911.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the North Bay Mountains and other parts of the Bay Area, which is in effect from Monday, Monday,  Oct. 19, 11pm & continuing through the weekend of Oct 24 & 25, so far. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected during this time frame for strong wind gusts and hot, dry conditions. The affected area includes higher terrain areas of Marin, Napa, Sonoma, and East Bay counties. Also Fairfax-Bolinas Road closed 7pm tonight through the Warning.

The concerns of this weather system are that fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Erratic gusty outflow winds may result in dangerous and unpredictable fire behavior.  California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and CAL FIRE have approved the strategic prepositioning and increased staffing of critical fire resources.

The following land-use restrictions are in effect for the Marin Municipal Water District, Mount Tamalpais State Park, Marin Open Space, and The Point Reyes National Seashore during the Red Flag conditions.
    •    Closures at Sky Oaks, Natalie Coffin Green Park (Ross), Leo Cronin Parking Lot, MMWD, and San Rafael Open Space
    •    Mount Vision Rd, Inverness  (National Park Service)
    •    Closure to Fairfax Bolinas Road
    •    All open burning and burn permits are suspended on public lands
    •    Closures to Mount Tamalpais State Park - Roads north of Panoramic Highway are closed to motor vehicle traffic on Pantoll Road and Ridgecrest Boulevard.  All park use permits north of Panoramic Highway are suspended, including filming.

The Mount Tamalpais State Park information number is 415-388-2070.
The Marin Municipal Water District information number is 415-945-1195.
The Marin County Fire Information Hotline number is 415-473-7191.

Defensible space is essential to improve your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire.

Point Reyes Station free chipper event run by FIRESafeMarin & funded by the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) is set for Wednesday, Nov. 11. All PRS residents can register their pile at: www.chipperday.com  or call and register at 415 570-4376. When you call, leave your name, phone number & address so crews can be sure to pick your pile. There is no pile size limit!  This is special for PRS (the website says there's a limit but not for this event in PRS). More information on the attached flyer. Sooner you register, you'll be included before a waiting list. ... Please note if you join with a neighbor for one pile, you should register both addresses & explain which address will have the pile out front.  Also, if you have a road behind the house where it will be, ie, not out front, please explain, as crews will be looking for addresses. This really is "curbside;" crews can't walk across yards to reach the pile. Last, please do call the phone number with such additional information and any questions.  ~posted by Lynn, pointreyesdisastercouncil.org

Reposting: AlertMarin & Nixle have different ways of reaching you & supplement each other. Register for both. Please continue reading the following explanation. AlertMarin relies on a “geocode," ie, a digital locater, that makes phone calls that may go wider than necessary (simplified explanation). Nixle can send a map and readable information to your computer or Iphone (email or text, depending on which device you use). Thus the overly wide alertmarin evacuation warning phone call during the height of the Woodward Fire was clarified via a nixle simple map and accompanying description. So everyone should be signed up for both alertmarin and nixle. And, yes, some people report some problems with one or the other, so it's essential to sign up for both. If you are not a computer user, keep KWMR tuned in (90.5 PRS, 89.9 Bolinas, 92.3 SGV)

AlertMarin: Listed and unlisted/blocked Marin County landline phone numbers are already included in the emergency notification system. Cell phone and VoIP numbers are not included and will require your registration in our Self-Registration Portal. https://www.marinsheriff.org/services/emergency-services/alert-marin(link is external)

Imminent flooding, wildfires, and evacuations with life safety implications
During-event information about evacuation routes, shelters, transportation

When do we {Sheriff's Office] use Nixle?

When INFORMATION is needed in a ZIP CODE
Road closures, general updates, issues affecting larger areas
Post-disaster information about shelters, transportation, or supplies
