Based on Italian folk tales of the Nativity and Epiphany, Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors is a retelling of the story of the Magi from the point of view of a young disabled boy named Amahl, who lives in poverty with his widowed mother near Bethlehem. He sees a bright star in the sky one night and tells his mother to go look, but she brushes him off, buried in concern over their bleak future and lack of means with which to support themselves.

Oak woodland and grassland habitat are threatened by outcompeting Douglas-fir trees. Our staff and volunteers regularly remove these rapid spreaders. Join us for a morning of habitat restoration followed by an afternoon of crafting with the beautiful and pleasant smelling evergreen branches. Go home with holiday wreaths and decorations for your home.

Living with Lions: Hikes & games at Martin Griffin Preserve

Pounce like a lion! Join our mountain lion project staff and our volunteer Nature Guides to learn all about our secretive mountain lion neighbors and their role as top predators in our natural communities. (We won't see one -- but we will learn all about them!) The preserve is open for exploration from 10am - 4pm every Saturday through the end of July. Mountain lion hikes and games begin at 11:30 and 1, then stick around afterward to have a picnic, enjoy our bookstore and Curiosity Room, and visit the ponds!
