Day of the Dead/ Dia de los Muertos

Join in the colorful procession with Aztec Dancers and Day of the Dead pageantry! March from Gallery Route One to the Dance Palace for an evening of song, ceremony, food, and treats. Community members are encouraged to dress in Day of the Dead finery and carry photos of love ones passed to place on the altar at the Dance Palace. Sponsored by the Dance Palace Community & Cultural Center, KWMR, West Marin Fund, Marin Community Foundation & West Marin Community Services.

Ane Carla Rovetta is not only a Master Storyteller, she is also an illustrator who draws the animals in a story in front of her audiences! Come sit, surrounded by her art exhibition that is currently on view at the Display Hall in Picher Canyon and listen to her tales of the OLD Days. Then, watch, as she creates more lively animal images with vivid strokes of chalks that she makes. You will be transported to the magical time when the animals could speak.

Mia Monroe will offer an overview of Muir Woods from old-growth redwood forest ecology to its pre-eminent role in conservation history, plus share the exciting future as Muir Woods continues to welcome visitors in modern ways. Mia also will share exciting news on the Marin populations of monarch butterflies, thanks to active work by local citizen scientists!

River otters are charismatic carnivores, and make wonderful ambassadors for river and wetland restoration and conservation efforts. Yet, little is known about their population, range and seasonal eating habits in the Bay Area. The River Otter Ecology Project has taken on the challenge of discovering and documenting their ecological niche, with the goal of informing land use decisions and preserving habitat for these lively aquatic mammals.

As part of the traditional Western Weekend festivities, West Marin Commons is sponsoring a Barn Dance at Toby's Feed Barn on Saturday, June 4th from 6:00-9:00pm.  Admission is free to all and families are especially encouraged to join in the fun.  The dancing is led by our favorite caller Erik Hoffman.  Absolutely no experience is required.  The hat will be passed to help pay the band for those that can contribute.  We want to celebrate community following day long activities at Toby's.  Tacos will be available for sale by the Martinez family along with refrescos.  Please join in and bring
